Prof. Hollis H. King DO, PhD, FAAO, FCA (USA) graduierte 1983 am Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine und promovierte 1971 an der Louisiana State University in Klinischer Psychologie. Prof. Dr. King ist derzeit medizinischer Direktor des Osteopathischen Zentrums für Kinder und ist einer der Osteopathen „Continuing the Dream and Advancing the Dream“ von Viola M. Frymann in San Diego. Er hat Forschungen zur Plagiozephalie durchgeführt und ist außerdem Professor für Familienmedizin an der UCSD School of Medicine und Arzt im OMT-Service des Zentrums für Integrative Medizin und des Osteopathischen Zentrums für Kinder. King ist ehemaliger Präsident der American Academy of Osteopathy. Er ist der Autor des Kapitels über „Osteopathie im Schädelbereich“ in den letzten drei Ausgaben von Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine. Sie sind an vielen Publikationen beteiligt. Welche ist für Sie am wichtigsten und warum?
Ich bin Redaktionsmitglied des Journal of American Osteopathic Association und des American Academy of Osteopathy Journal. Ich unterstütze beide Zeitschriften, indem ich Manuskript-Reviews durchführe und meine Forschungsmanuskripte zur Veröffentlichung in diesen Zeitschriften einreiche, um Osteopathie und Osteopathische Medizin zu unterstützen. Während die „Wirksamkeit“ für Osteopathie und Osteopathische Medizin letztendlich in der Interaktion zwischen Arzt und Patient liegt, ist es hilfreich, die medizinisch-wissenschaftlichen Erwartungen zu erfüllen, evidenzbasierte Forschung zu betreiben um die Glaubwürdigkeit gegenüber Regierungen und Gesundheitsministerien sowie der Öffentlichkeit aufrechtzuerhalten.
Ihr Tätigkeitsfeld erstreckt sich von der Klinik über das Unterrichten bis zum Schreiben. Wie haben Sie von dieser Vielfalt profitiert?
Ich war gesegnet, einen Mentor und ein Vorbild wie Viola Frymann, DO zu haben, die berühmt dafür war, klinische Arbeit zu leisten, zu unterrichten und zu schreiben. Die Forschung hat die klinische Arbeit verschärft, indem die Notwendigkeit erkannt wurde, die in der Forschung verwendeten OMT-Techniken genau zu definieren. Die präzise Definition der Funktionsweise der OMT-Technik verbessert auch das Erlernen der OMT. Ich lerne ständig neue OMT-Techniken, die die in den Forschungsprotokollen verwendeten Techniken ergänzen, und bin daher auch noch Student der Osteopathie. In Ihrem Vortrag auf unserem Symposium diskutieren Sie die evidenzbasierte OCF-Praxis.
Gibt es klinisch signifikante Ergebnisse aus der Forschung in der OCF?
In meinem Vortrag werde ich die belegte Literatur sowohl zum Modell der OCF-Phänomene als auch zur klinischen Forschung darstellen, die die Vorteile von OCF unterstützt. Ich führe derzeit klinische Forschungen zu TBI, Parkinson, Glaukom und Plagiozephalie mit OCF durch und habe möglicherweise einige neue Daten, die zum Zeitpunkt der Veranstaltung in Berlin vorliegen könnten.
Was können die Teilnehmer von Ihrem Workshop „OCF bei traumatischen Hirnverletzungen und neurologischen Erkrankungen“ erwarten?
In dem Workshop präsentiere ich die grundlegenden OCF-Verfahren, die in der klinischen Forschung verwendet werden, und diskutiere mit Ihnen die vorgeschlagenen Wirkmechanismen.

Do you know Prof. Hollis H. King?
Prof. Hollis H. King DO, PhD, FAAO, FCA (USA) graduated from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983 and earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University in 1971. Prof. Dr. King is currently the medical director of the Osteopathic Center for Children and is one of the osteopaths “Continuing the Dream and Advancing the Dream” of Viola M. Frymann, DO, FAAO in San Diego, CA. He has conducted and published research on plagiocephaly. He is also a professor of Family Medicine at the UCSD School of medicine, and staff physician in the OMT Service in the Center for Integrative Medicine, and the Osteopathic Center for Children. He is a past president of the American Academy of Osteopathy. He is the author of the chapter on “Osteopathy in the Cranial Field” in the past three editions of „Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine“. You are involved in many publications. Which one is the most important for you and why?
I am on the Editorial Board of both the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Osteopathy Journal. I support both journals by doing manuscript reviews and submitting my research manuscripts for publication to these journals as my way supporting Osteopathy and Osteopathic Medicine. While ultimately the „proof“ of Osteopathy and Osteopathic Medicine rests in the doctor-patient interaction, it is helpful to meet medical scientific expectations of doing evidence-based research to maintain credibility with governments and health ministries as well as the public.
Your field of activity extends from clinic to teaching and writing. How did you benefit from these intersections?
I have been blessed to have a mentor and roll model like Viola Frymann, DO who was famous for doing clinic work, teaching and writing. The research has sharpened the clinical work by realizing the need define precisely the OMT techniques used in the research. The precision OMT technique operational definition also improves the teaching of OMT. I am constantly learning new OMT techniques which adds to the techniques used in the research protocols, so I am still a student of osteopathy, too.
At your lecture at our symposium you will discuss evidence-based OCF practice. Are there clinical significant outcomes from research in the OCF?
In my presentation I will review the evidenced-based literature on the both the model of the phenomena of OCF and the clinical research supportive of the benefits of OCF. I am currently carrying out clinical research on TBI, Parkinson’s disease, glaucoma, and plagiocephaly utilizing OCF and may have some new data ready to be presented at the time of Berlin event.
What can the participants expect from your workshop “OCF in Traumatic Brain Injury and Neurological Disorders”?
In the workshop, I will present for practice the basic OCF procedures used in the clinical research, and discussed the proposed mechanisms of action.
